A capybara encounter on the Gulf Coast

St. Petersburg draws visitors for its waterfront, its beaches, and its walkable downtown. The Capybara Café gives that same trip a different kind of memory: quiet, guided time with one of the world's most easygoing animals, in a private room built around their comfort.

Our St. Pete location is our second herd, opened to bring the same guided, small-group experience to Florida's Gulf Coast.

What to expect

Every visit is guided from start to finish. A staff member checks you in, walks you back to your private room, and leads the encounter, including feeding your capybara by hand. Your guide may also introduce a few other animal ambassadors along the way, though feeding is reserved for the capybaras.

Planning your visit

Reserve online before you arrive, since weekend slots tend to fill up during peak Florida travel season. Complete your waiver ahead of time so check-in at the counter takes just a minute, then wait to be walked back for your encounter. Closed-toe shoes are recommended, and it's worth wearing clothes you don't mind getting a little dusty.
